Information Officer
Our Information Officer is Dr Johan Pieterse. Any question about this notice, or any request to access, correct or delete your personal information, may be sent to info@theahg.co.za (marked “for the attention of the Information Officer”).
What personal information we collect
• Account details - name, email address and, where you supply them, a profile photo and preferences.
• Enquiry and booking details - name, email, telephone number, organisation and the message you send us through an enquiry or booking form.
• Learning records - the courses you enrol in, your activity, quiz and assessment results, completion status and the certificates we issue to you.
• Payment-related information - where a course is paid, the fact of payment and the access code issued to you. We do not store card details on this site.
• Technical data - IP address, browser type and cookies necessary to keep you logged in and to run the site.
Why we process it, and our lawful basis
We process your personal information to:
• create and manage your account and give you access to courses;
• record your progress and issue certificates of completion;
• respond to your enquiries and manage bookings;
• send you service messages about courses you have enrolled in; and
• comply with our legal and record-keeping obligations.
We rely on one or more of the POPIA grounds for lawful processing: performance of a contract with you (providing the training you request), your consent (for example when you submit an enquiry), our legitimate interests in operating the academy, and compliance with the law.
Cookies
We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and to secure forms. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. You can block cookies in your browser, but parts of the site may then not work.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with operators (processors) who help us run the service - for example our hosting and email providers - under confidentiality obligations, and with authorities where the law requires it.
Where it is stored and how we protect it
Your information is stored on servers under our control. We apply reasonable technical and organisational safeguards - access controls, encryption in transit and regular backups - to protect it against loss, damage and unauthorised access, as required by section 19 of POPIA.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and learning records for as long as your account is active and thereafter only as long as needed for legitimate business, legal or accreditation purposes (for example, to re-issue a certificate), after which the information is deleted or de-identified.
Your rights under POPIA
You have the right to:
• be told what personal information we hold about you and to receive a copy of it;
• ask us to correct or delete information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive or out of date;
• object, on reasonable grounds, to the processing of your information;
• withdraw consent where we relied on it; and
• lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.
To exercise any of these rights, email info@theahg.co.za. A formal access request may be made under the PAIA Manual.
